AAM: Video in iWeb
It’s not often we get an Apple Matters reader answering their own questions on AAM, but this week Haye321 has gone against all odds and done just that. With the help of Beeblebrox, Haye wanted to know how to insert Videoclips into iWeb without meaningless code appearing, something that kept occurring when trying to place content on the webpage from various locations on his hard-drive.
Beeblebrox offered his words of wisdom by stating “It shouldn’t matter where the videos reside on the HDD, nor should it matter what format they are. I’ve dragged .mpg files and .mov files with no issues” something that is true but clearly not the case in this situation. Haye had obviously spent hours trying to solve the mystery as others were unable to help on the AM forums. His solution? See below.
I’ve found iWeb to be a great way for novice web-designers to place their content up on the web with ease. However, despite how easy Apple have made it, web design (along with uploading content to servers) can be a very frustrating procedure if you’ve never had a crack at it before. The ‘For Dummies’ book range which offers helpful guides and tutorials for every aspect of computing has its very own Web Design for Dummies. I’ve not had a look at this particular book myself but I have picked up a couple of copies of the ‘For Dummies’ range in the past and found them to be brilliant for novice users. If you’re interested, give it a shot.
As far as iWeb is concerned, you’ll be pleased to know Apple offer some tips and tutorials on their website, for free, in order to help their users design better looking and more accessible web pages. Check out the iWeb Tutorial site now if you’re wanting to get started with iWeb as soon as possible.
Anyway, until next week folks.
Question of the Week
Question by: Haye321
I am trying to put video into an iWeb website that I am making for a friend. The files were scattered in various locations throughout the hard drive and when I tried dragging them into the iWeb page all I got was meaningless code. I tried dragging the files into the movies folder and then inserting it into the webpage through the media button but that did not work either. Anyone have any ideas?
Answer by: Haye321
I solved the problem on my own! For anyone who is having the same problem I will post what I did. I found all of the files and I put them into one folder and made sure they were all able to play in Quicktime Player. Then once I did that I dragged the files into the iWeb site and then it just worked.
