December 28, 1989: Woz Gets Honorary Doctorate, Dish Incident Forgotten

After graduating from high school, Steve Wozniak looked east to further his education. To that end, the Woz enrolled in the University of Colorado to pursue a degree in Electrical Engineering.

Unfortunately, the time Wozniak spent at Colorado was not without incident. Wozniak was forced to hire a lawyer when the school chastised him for "excessive" use of the university’s mainframe computer. Other troubles included a cafeteria incident wherein Woz was responsible for hundreds of broken dishes.

Woz's misadventures led him to leave school and return to the Bay Area where he would eventually meet Steve Jobs. A seminal computer later and Woz was one of the most famous tinkerers in the world. The University of Colorado overlooked Woz's past transgressions and awarded him an honorary doctorate this week in 1989.
