December 8, 1975: Byte Shop Opens
There are a multitude of "if not for X, Apple would never have happened" scenarios. In the great chain of events that comprise Apple's history, the Byte Shop is one of the more often overlooked links.
Started by Paul Terrell, the Byte Shop catered to computer hobbyists and was likely the first retail computer store in America. The store also happened to be Apple's first customer. A scruffy Steve Jobs convinced Paul Terrell to purchase $50 Apple I's at a price of $500. Impressively, Steve made the pitch barefoot.
The computer store that was Apple's first retail customer opened on December 8, 1975.
