February 10, 1993: Color Classic Launched
Spacious hard drive, sharp color monitor, a tiny pinch of expandability, a cute form factor and a user friendly interface: it all adds up to a market moving smash hit, right? It might have, but when the Color Classic was introduced, featuring everything mentioned earlier, it elicited more of a glorified yawn than a foot pounding rush to the nearest Apple retailer.
The problem was that the Color Classic came a bit late in the game. It would have been a fantastic computer as the original Mac or as the first Mac II. By the time the Color Classic arrived on the scene, it was a lot too little and very much too late. Users who wanted color had the Mac II as an option and if you were interested in performance, you were better off with a used SE/30.
The computer that was everything that should have been in a Mac in 1987 was introduced this month in 1993.
