January 2, 2005: iPod Domination No Longer in Doubt
The iPod is a huge hit for Apple and a major source of income. Of course, the iPod wasn't always the de facto standard for digital audio players. In fact, it wasn't always clear that digital audio players were going to be accepted by the larger marketplace at all.
Worries about the acceptance of digital audio players and uncertainty about who was going to dominate the market were cleared up this week in 2004 when Apple announced they had sold 2 million iPods. The news elated iPod fans, excited fans of Apple Computer in general and sent the stock up yet again. For the record, the iPod wasn't done yet. Apple sold another 2 million iPods…in the fourth quarter of 2004.
