June 12, 1998: Apple’s Long Forgotten Radio Ads Begin Airing
Apple television ads provide fodder for pundits to over analyze and over criticize. Apple's radio ads, on the other hand, were much less widely known or remembered.
The ads were longish and they featured, naturally, a voiceover by Richard Dreyfuss. The main push of the ad was what you could get when you bought a G3 Mac buyers could receive (apparently the choice was theirs) either a copy of Virtual PC or 32 MB of RAM. The wisdom of offering users an option to get used to Windows is suspect but it was part of Apple's either/or promotion: more compatibility or more power.
The ads began blanketing select markets on June 12, 1998.
