March 11, 1998: Gone Bunny Hunting

by Chris Seibold Mar 11, 2011

Rabbit, be it braised, roasted or fried, is an under-appreciated food item. The mid-sized lagomorph is both delicious and a valuable source of protein. While America might lack a decent number of recipes for the cute but tasty cottontailed beasts, the world knows better and there are any number of ways to prepare bunny if a decent international cookbook is consulted.

Incase you wondered if you were reading a cooking blog instead of an Apple one, bear with me! The number of ways to cook a rabbit increased by one and that way was: toasted. The source of the new recipe? Apple's newest ad. The spot, titled "Toasted Bunnies," was another move to highlight the G3's superiority to the Pentium offerings of Intel.

The commercial began in first person perspective with a fireman extinguishing the viewer. The subsequent scene reveals that the extinguishee, in this case, was none other than a still smoking, blue, clean-room suited Intel Bunny. Richard Dreyfuss then apologizes to Intel for toasting the Pentium II. A good chuckle was had by Mac users everywhere when the "Toasted Bunnies" ad debuted March 11, 1998.
