October 12, 2005: the Video iPod Arrives

by Chris Seibold Oct 12, 2010

Since the introduction of the color iPod (and before) people had been wondering just when the iPod would be able to play video content.

Technical abilities aside, Steve Jobs was flippant when asked about the iPod enhancement, once remarking that he wanted the iPod to toast his bagels too.

The reality was that Apple didn't want to introduce a video iPod without a viable stream of video content for its device. That problem was solved when the video iPod arrived on the scene with an enhanced version of iTunes that sold select TV shows in an iPod-friendly format on October 12, 2005.
