October 5, 1999: iMac Gets Updated
One of the most welcome upgrades to the G3 iMac line: Apple bumped processor speeds across the board (the low-end iMac went from 333 MHz to 350 MHz); replaced the CD tray with a slot-loading mechanism; boosted memory to 64 MB, and upgraded video cards.
Things were even more exciting with the new DV and DV SE models. Those opting for the higher-end iMacs got a machine with FireWire allowing them to use Apple's new must-have program: iMovie.
The iMacs were generally updated in the summer, but the trend was broken in 1999 when Apple upgraded the iMacs on October 5.
