October 9, 1991: StyleWriter Introduced

by Chris Seibold Oct 09, 2010

Apple had been selling printers since the introduction of the SilenType. Typically the printers were made by other companies and rebadged with the Apple logo.

Apple's first inkjet printer was no different. Basically, a Canon Bubble jet in Apple clothing, the StyleWriter was a 360 DPI monochrome printer. It produced letter-quality output, but was derided by many as inferior to ImageWriters because the StyleWriter printed at the rate of one page per minute.

Resumes and letters look much better with letter-quality text, even if took a while to print, so users were happy to shell out the $599 Apple requested for the StyleWriter when it was introduced this month in 1990.
