Waiting for the right touch

by Chris Howard Apr 07, 2008

Ah, the curse of the technology sector. Something better is always just around the corner. And for me that is a price cut on the 32GB iPod touch.

As much as it should be the iPhone, I have more chance of getting my virginity back than being able to afford the iPhone's monthly plans once it hits Down Under.

It's killing me waiting, and it will likely be several months yet, but I'd kick myself if i spent AU$600 plus bucks on it only to see it drop AU$100 a few months later. (I reckon AU$600 is way too much to pay for this sort of device anyway). Plus, since I'm buying a touch, I don't want to have to pay for the v2.0 software upgrade. And I'm hoping the next touch hardware update will include a microphone so I could use it as a VoIP phone. (Hmm... no wonder it doesn't have a microphone.)

So, like the rest of the industry, this is Apple's curse - folks waiting for the next model. I think, though, Apple suffers this worse than others. The product cycles of no other company are watched as closely by its customers. MacRumors even has a buying guide, making recommendations based on educated guesses and average product life cycles.

And, by pre-announcing the SDK so far in advance, Apple has probably made it worse for itself this time. Of course, at the end of the day, it still gets our money. It just puts a little dint in its cashflow for a few months.

So, yes, Apple, you are going to get my money, but, sorry, you are going to have to wait.

Is anyone else waiting for the next iPhone or iPod touch update before buying? Or some other Apple product?
