Description

The mid-range iMac DV was available in the five flavors: Blueberry, Strawberry, Tangerine, Lime and Grape.  It ran the G3 PowerPC 750 processor at 400Mhz and had 10Gb hard drive.  It had a new slot-loading 4x DVD-ROM, a USB keyboard and a USB mouse.  It had a maximum RAM of 1Gb and an ATI Rage 128 VR graphics card.  The built-in monitor was a 15-inch shadow mask CRT with a 13.8” viewable area.  It had audio input and three output jacks, a built-in microphone and built-in speakers.  It had two USB ports and two FireWire ports.

A “Special Edition” of the iMac DV was released in Graphite.  It had double the amount of onboard RAM and a 13Gb hard drive.

History

The iMac DV showcased several new features in addition to those added to the iMac SL.  It had a DVD-ROM drive, as indicated in the name.  It also had a larger hard drive and was the first consumer-oriented computer to feature FireWire ports.  The iMac DV was also designed to operate without needing to have a cooling fan.  This made it the quietest Macintosh since the Macintosh 512k.
