Description

The Macintosh IIcx was very similar to the IIx. It ran a Motorola 68030 at 16 MHz. The 1-2MB of RAM was expandable to 128MB. It contained fewer expansion slots, making it more compact. The cooling fan was also smaller and quieter.

History

The Macintosh IIcx was popular with users for a number of reasons. The fact that many of the parts snapped together without screws made it easier to repair and expand. The compact size and quiet running were also benefits that made the IIcx a success. At $5369, it was also less expensive than many in the Macintosh II line.
